BIOGRAPHY
Mezzo-soprano Abigail Fischer is a versatile singer whose has been praised for her sumptuous (The Boston Globe) and impressive (Newsweek) voice. Equally adept at music from the Baroque era to contemporary work, Ms. Fischer has performed regularly with New York Collegium (Andrew Parrott, conductor) and Early Music New York(Frederick Renz, director), and has given world premieres of new music by John Zorn, Nico Muhly, Bernard Rands, and the Bang on a Can artists.
Ms. Fischer has collaborated with other well-known early music artists including Paul O Dette, Ellen Hargis, and George Steel's VOX ensemble. Recent highlights include Dido in Dido and Aeneas with the Bronx Opera, and soloing in performances with the Trinity Wall Street Choir and the renowned Rebel Ensemble. In 2006, she was the principal guest artist with the new music ensemble Continuum on their 2006 tour to Jakarta, performing in the Probowo opera The Kings Witch. Also in 2006, she was a member of a pioneer group of vocalists at the Lucerne Festival Academy, under the direction of Daniel Reuss and Pierre Boulez.
Ms. Fischer has performed many other opera roles including Cherubino in Mozart The Marriage of Figaro, Mother Marie in Poulenc The Dialogue of the Carmelites, Sesto in Mozart La Clemenza di Tito, Mrs. Lovett in Sondheim Sweeney Todd, Ma Moss in Copland The Tender Land, and Jean in the Massenet one-act Le Portrait de Manon. She has soloed in numerous works, including in Mozart Requiem, Beethoven Missa Solemnis, Handel The Messiah, William Albright Song to David, Bach Magnificat, and Mozart Mass in C.
Abigail Fischer is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music (MM) and Vassar College (BA), and currently studies with Irene Gubrud.

Mezzo-soprano Abigail Fischer is a versatile singer praised for her
plush, luxurious voice and unfailing sensitivity. As an early music
musician, she has worked with artists such as Paul O Dette, Ellen
Hargis, Fred Renz, George Steel, and Andrew Parrott. As a
contemporary musician, she has worked under conductors such as Brad
Lubman, Gil Rose, and Daniel Reuss, and performed works by Berio,
Babbitt, Rands, Reich, Zorn, Xenakis, and the Bang on a Can artists.
On the stage, she has performed as Oberon(Britten), Cherubino(Mozart),
Mrs. Lovett(Sondheim), Sesto(Mozart), Mother Marie(Poulenc), and
Dido(Purcell). She solos regularly with choruses in New York City,
including the solos in the Mozart Requiem, the Beethoven Missa
Solemnis, the Handel Messiah, the Bach Magnificat, and sings regularly now
at the Church of Saint Mary the Virgin. Last year she was a soloist with the
Boston Pops as part of a Sondheim tribute with Keith Lockhart. Trained
as a cellist, she continues to pursue chamber music both as a cellist
and a vocalist, and she is planning an all vocal chamber music program for february in tribeca
with kimball gallagher, piano. Her performances have been heard on NPR and WQXR,
in features on the Trinity Choir Concerts, and the Elements of Style
Project of Mira Kalman and Nico Muhly, performed at the New York
Public Library Reading Room. A graduate of Vassar College and the Eastman School
of Music, she studied with teachers Drew Minter, Mary Ann Hart, Carol
Webber, and Susanne Mentzer. She has attended Lucca Opera Festival,
Ferrandou Singing School under the direction of David Wilson-Johnson,
Opera North, Madison Early Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival, and
the Tanglewood Music Center.
